Pam and Clint Cavers had the surprise of their lives on Wednesday, August 28th, when MAFRI (Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives) staff showed up at their property in order to “seize and destroy” their stock of locally produced and cured prosciutto. Here is some raw footage of the inspectors telling student guests (2 students and an instructor from a University course) for their identification. They later said the students had to delete the photos and video. The students/instructor complied as not to escalate the situation, but one of the students hid some of the video footage from the inspector – two of the clips are below. More video to come.

If the Raiders/Food Inspectors thought they were in the right they wouldn’t have been so afraid to be seen on camera doing the right thing. The fact they reacted so badly means they didn’t want to be caught on video doing something they know is unethical, unjust, and inadequately thought through decision making on the part of the department. How can Cavers be censured for not meeting regulations if there are no regulations for that type of processing?

  4. fifty years ago when I was a teenager..We where worried about communism. You know red or dead, it look like we are there now

  5. A hard working family that has a better product than a big corporation. They take pride in what they do. The food inspectors were just hungry and took it out on the Cavers family

How sad that the MB government is anti cottage industry! More important. Who is the bureaucrat that issued this “raid order” and why are the “raiders” behaving like the SS, Stasi, Arrow Cross, or KGB? Is it time for a change of government at the next election and bring back some common sense to this province? …And is there something more sinister behind the scene where the industrial food complex is pulling strings?

  7. I’ll tell you what this is all about…The NDP are supported and puppets to the unions. As long as the big plants (which employ big unions) are happy with 100% of the market, everything is cool. Soon as a small outfit puts out a good product with no union employees, the NDP act like vultures to stop the progress of the small businessperson. If you do the research you’ll find this to be a prominent mantra of this government.
